That gave FreeCell the reach to go "viral" (that term might be a bit anachronistic) and it soon spread. The network was called PLATO Opens a new window and supported 1,000 users with 1,000 terminals and one very large mainframe. Originally developed to play with actual cards, Alfille soon grew tired of shuffling and, in 1979, developed a digital version of the game on the computer network at the University of Illinois. Solitaire's early introduction to the world of computers came about in the late 1960s when Paul Alfille, a 10-year-old, created his own take on Klondike, which he called FreeCell. (Others argue that "he preferred whist, a trick-taking game that would have perhaps better sated the tyrant's taste for conquest.")Ĭontrary to popular belief, not all Klondike games are created equal – 79% of games are theoretically winnable from the onset Opens a new window but many people lose 79% of the time due to an early strategical error. Some even say that Napoleon played Klondike Opens a new window during his exile period on St. What is commonly known as Solitaire is actually a game called Klondike, which is "one of the many card games in the Solitaire family" and was first recorded in the 1700s as a way to pass time, according to Opens a new window. Therefore, we’ll cover the steps for retouching in Photoshop using frequency separation.įrequency separation is basically done in three steps:įirst, let’s duplicate our background layer (which is the image we want to modify) and create two independent layers. There are many software applications that allow you to apply the frequency separation technique, but the most popular is undoubtedly Adobe Photoshop. This image was created by superimposing the High Frequencies (fine detail) of a picture of Albert Einstein onto the Low Frequencies (volume information) of a picture of Marilyn Monroe. How is this possible? Through frequency separation! The closer you get to the screen, the more the image of Albert Einstein replaces that of Marilyn. If you look at this image from a distance (try to move 5 meters away from the screen), you’ll see without too much difficulty the image of Marilyn Monroe. everything you see in the image when you look at it from further away.Īn example that’s often done, and that I also love to do to explain this concept, is the famous optical illusion “Marilyn Einstein” created by MIT. The low frequencies are those that instead enclose volume information, such as tonal transitions, lights, and shadows. The high frequencies are those with very fine details – in portraits, for example, the hair, skin pores, small imperfections… everything you see when you look at the image very close up. In essence, it’s possible to break down our image into spatial frequencies: a technical and complicated word to say that we can make divisions according to the level of detail contained within different areas, and then act selectively on these zones.Īlthough more formally we should consider three levels of frequency, we can easily think of dividing our image into high frequencies and low frequencies. There are many ways to analyze these mutual relationships, and one of the most used is frequency separation. But when they’re put together and related to each other, not only do they allow us to see our final image, but they allow us to make considerations about how they relate to each other. If taken individually the pixels can’t tell us much… in fact, they’re only colored squares. And each pixel is associated with fundamental information to describe our image. Each of our digital images consists of its most fundamental elements: pixels.

This study confirms the association of basic and derived TMT raw scores with sociodemographic variables and provides updated correction grids and ES for assessing the attentional/executive functions in clinical and research fields.Īssessment Attention Dementia Executive functions Norms Trail Making Test. Basic and derived TMT scores showed a good test-retest reliability (all r s ≥ 0.50) Part B (r s = - 0.48, p < 0.001) and Score B-A (r s = - 0.49, p < 0.001) were moderately associated with MoCA total score. Inferential cutoff scores, estimated using a non-parametric technique, and ES were computed. From the derived linear equations, correction grids for basic and derived TMT raw scores were developed. Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA)-Italian version: regression based norms and equivalent scores Neurol. Multiple linear regression analyses revealed that age and educational level significantly influenced performances on basic and derived TMT scores except for B/A, which was associated only with the educational level. Three hundred fifty-five Italian volunteers stratified for sex (166 men), age decades (age range 20-90 years), and educational level (from primary school to university) completed the TMT and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Since the regression-based norms and equivalent scores (ESs) for the TMT Italian version trace back to more than 20 years ago, we aimed at providing updated normative data for basic (Part A and Part B) and derived (Score B-A and Score B/A) TMT scores collected in a larger sample with an extended age range. The Trail Making Test (TMT) is widely used to assess psychomotor speed and attentional set-shifting.

Flightgear 3.4 world scenery2/9/2024 I mean, let's face it, even features like Rembrandt (which can safely be considered to be unmaintained these days.) still linger around in the codebase - the osgEarth branches have seen at least /some/ activity recently. to have a fallback scheme in place), would not be such a bad move. I don't disagree at all - while the main benefits/use-case of having photoscenery/osgEarth support in FlightGear may seem fairly narrow, or even disputable, (depending on your interests/focus), the recent mapserver/terrasync "developments" would at least suggest that supporting additional scenery schemes/engines, even if just to improve the redundancy in the scenery department (i.e. it is unlikely that Thorsten will be overly enthusiastic about Rembrandt, osgEarth, Python or even a 3rd party weather engine using HLA, given his own focus of involvement/contributions (ALS, EarthView, Nasal/Advanced Weather). However, to be fair, it does make sense to look at someone's background/expertise and nature of involvement - e.g. providing osgEarth as an /option/ in response to Martin's decision not to provide the underlying base data for seamlessly re-generating scenery, and the feelings seem to be mixed - pretty much for all the reasons that Thorsten mentioned already. (I've recently been in touch with other contributors about this specifically, i.e. If you are interested in photo-scenery, and if you are able to patch/rebuild FlightGear from source, there's not too much involved in giving it a try - rebasing onto next/master is a different issue, which will require some git/C++ knowledge, but otherwise it's not rocket science.Īs has been said, it will look great for /some/ situations, and it will have limitations in others - however, given the current state of affairs in the scenery department, it would probably not be a bad idea to consider providing osgEarth at least as an /option/ - just like FlightGear has other features that are mutually exclusive and that have different advantages and disadvantages (think Rembrandt vs. Since the patch/merge request was put up for review, many months have passed - and the corresponding developer did continue working on his code (see the gitlab repository for details), but poweroftwo has also stated that he'll be busy with other work, so that he won't have too much time that he can dedicate to going through the review process again. That being said, there's nothing wrong with treating it as a startup/runtime (or even build time) option so that people can make up their own minds whether they want to use/support or even develop it. Realistically, osgEarth/photo-scenery is mutually exclusive with quite a few other features. In fact, for the time being, osgEarth works basically like a "black box" and it would be tons of work to make that work with existing effects/shaders in FlightGear. In summary, the osgEarth patch is great for many things, but will not be overly useful for many use-cases that Thorsten (and Curt) mentioned in the past (see the devel list for details). Thorsten is basically right - however, even if there was a holistic plan in place to favor osgEarth/photoscenery-based scenery, that would not necessarily be very representative - for instance, at some point, most core developers were contemplating/expressing interest in making Rembrandt (deferred rendering) the default startup mode - equally, others wanted to enable effects/shaders by default (which would basically lock out most people without certain hardware, absent some form of dynamic feature scaling). Thorsten Posts: 12480 Joined: Mon 9:33 am So it would seem nobody is really interested enough in investing the work to make it happen. The optional implementation of OSGEarth has basically stalled because the person who has done it has never re-submitted the patch in response to a round of comments. If you think about it, you may come to the conclusion it's not that exciting. Right now we have a scheme in which we know for every pixel what the terrain is - we can make planes sink in water, skies slide over snow, simulate bumpiness when landing in the field, move motorbikes over roads, let clouds form over surfaces which heat up in the sun - why'd we want to replace that by a scheme in which all we get is colored pixels?īesides, photo-scenery looks good when you view it under the same conditions it was taken - in different light or weather you get all sorts of shadows which are out of place, dusty terrain while it is raining on it and similar visual mismatches. The developer community don't seem convinced that it's the way to go. How come, is it too big a file or something?

New pc shooter games free download2/8/2024 Dragging the series kicking and screaming from the bloody and muddied trenches of WWII, Modern Warfare re-energized an FPS juggernaut with a breakneck, perfectly paced campaign that's been copied by countless other military shooters since, yet never been remotely matched. The best Call of Duty campaign ever made… and it's not close. What stings even more than the plant-based murder, though? The sad fact that we'll probably never see such a brash, bright or commendably crude FPS like this again. Shunt every second enemy you meet into a cactus, because there's literally always a life-affirmingly sharp cactus lying around. Launch some men into orbit with an alt-fire rocket, then pick them out of the sky like they were clay pigeons. Boot a dude in the balls then kick his head off. Imagine if a new Tony Hawk's game served up tricks but replaced every Ollie and kickflip with increasingly gruesome ways of mangling mutants and you're pretty much there. The genius of Bulletstorm lies with its Skillshots. Beneath, you'll find one of the densest, most detailed, widest branching FPS systems ever devised. On Bulletstorm's surface, you'll find a brash, knowing, don't-give-a-fuck attitude, sitting on a layer of the most gloriously creative cursing you've ever heard in a video game. Never has a game so intelligent tried so hard to look like an idiot, or been so screamingly funny with it. Platform(s): PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch When it comes to sandbox shooters, few do madcap spectacle better than Far Cry 6. And all it took was half a dozen entries. Better yet? With the introduction of freedom fighter Dani – who you can actually see, listen to and emote alongside in third-person cutscenes – Far Cry has finally given us a protagonist who's actually worth rooting for. New additions like the Supremo Backpacks open up creative new avenues for both sneaky and explosive chaos, further enlivening Far Cry's already intoxicating power fantasy. Yet look past the dinky dachshund sidekicks named after a Spanish sausage and the typically assured, if samey stealth, and you'll find an FPS that feels like a much needed turning point for Far Cry. Does it still lean heavily on a lot of well-worn Ubisoft tropes? Obviously. It may not be the most important game in the series – that nod goes to the iconic third entry – but Far Cry 6 is still a superior shooter. Google world map satellite2/8/2024 Similarly, the interior jungles of Africa and South America, deserts in various parts of the world, and the remote boreal forests of Canada and Russia all exhibit limited illumination, reflecting the challenges faced by people in these regions when it comes to accessing electricity and infrastructure. Antarctica emerges as a completely dark expanse, reminding us of its isolation and otherworldly beauty. Moreover, the Night Earth map uncovers the vast expanses of our planet that remain thinly populated and unlit. The map visually portrays this phenomenon, offering insights into the patterns of human settlement and development. While certain regions may appear to be the brightest, they may not necessarily be the most heavily populated. One of the map's notable features is its ability to highlight the differences between brightness and population density. It showcases the stark contrasts in urbanization and population density around the world, demonstrating how cities tend to concentrate along coastlines and transportation networks. By providing a visual representation of the Earth's surface at night, the map reveals the areas that are brightly lit and urbanized, as well as those that remain unlit and remote. And yes, even though I didn’t pay anything I still feel shortchanged. The Night Earth map is a fascinating tool that allows us to explore and understand the impact of light pollution on our planet. I now know that if I had a desktop I’d be able to look at the moon and mars so I feel really gypped now. Overall really great concept but what I’m gathering from other reviews, the app particularly for iPad is super low quality compared to others. It is absolutely impossible to tell one country/state from the next with the impossibly thin tan line separating everything that, oh yea, is the same color that is used for most of the landscape. Also, it would be really enjoyable (and easier on my old lady eyes) to be able to make borders bold or different colors or even cut out a region to view it individually. You can’t adjust any type of visual settings so if you zoom too far in on, say, China, you get a million different location names in English and Chinese and you can’t even see the land under all the text. I am terrible at geography and thought this would help me with a class I’m taking but I was mistaken. It’s like they took what they were in the process of developing years ago and just threw it up without even looking at it for a quick review. It takes a lot of disappointment for me to write reviews but this app is just so flat. Not Even Basic App Comforts (2020 iPad Pro) However, these things don’t compensate for the nonsensical UI/UX changes. There are a couple new features I appreciate, but they could’ve easily been incorporated without changing the UI completely! I’m happy they gave more control over custom layers, made Timelapse easy to use, and made a toggle to show areas with 3D coverage. And what happened to the Voyager section where you could view different interactive pre-made stories like sea level rise, deforestation, etc?! The slideshow for viewing photos is a complete downgrade because you can no longer zoom in on the pictures! The layers tab is cluttered. Now I have this annoying UI element constantly taking up a ton of space where it can accidentally get tapped. This update makes absolutely no sense and is a perfect example for app developers of what NOT to do - don’t dramatically change an app that worked great for years unless the changes clearly benefit users! These changes are not improvements! Why make a huge “Your projects” tab that takes up screen real estate without even giving us the option to completely hide it? My guess is that most mobile Google Earth users don’t even use projects regularly… I certainly don’t.
